  1. Change unhealthy patterns of thought: These can be very unhelpful and you must recognize them. Once you’ve identified these negative thoughts, take steps to think about things more positively as it can improve your mental health and wellbeing. Many people have found writing a gratitude journal to be very helpful. It takes just a few minutes out of your day, but it can make a world of difference. You’re organizing your thoughts on paper which helps you acknowledge anxieties and fears. In turn, this gives you the opportunity for more positive self-talk. 
  2. Be in the present more: Take time to be aware of yourself and be in the present moment. It helps you to recognize your thoughts and feelings as well as be more aware of the world around you. This way of being is often referred to as mindfulness. 
  3. Get a good night’s sleep: Experts tend to recommend an average of 8 hours of sleep every night but this doesn’t work for everyone. Some people need more while others need less. Find the right balance because it will make a big difference to how you feel physically and mentally. 
  4. Connect with others more: You can stop yourself from feeling lonely by spending quality time with friends and family. Find people to talk to about how you feel or find ways to help other people. You don’t have to see people in person. There’s also the option of connecting online or by phone.
  5. Live a healthy life: Have a healthy, balanced diet, enjoy the outdoors and be active. Ditch unhealthy habits like smoking and cut your intake of alcohol, caffeine, and processed foods. This will all have a positive effect on your mood. 
  6. Don’t forget about yourself: Learn something new, enjoy your favorite hobby, or just take time out to relax. Doing things that make you happy is important for your mental health.
